Gospel Singer
Yoann Freget was born in France. He joined a gospel choir at the age of 15. Mr. Freget performed with the choir for three years, becoming a soloist. Subsequently, Mr. Freget sang in several bands including"BRBB", a Tribute to Otis Redding, with an orchestra of 6 musicians; the "Soul Travellers" band; and in the Gospel quintet "Gospel Shakers." He performed duets with the Gospel singer Sabine Kouli ("Maezah" and "Soul Spirit") in "Gospel Jam". He was a choir singer on the Marianne Aya Omac's album, "Be My Witness." Mr. Freget has sung as a chorist for Stevie Wonder, Liz McComb, and Helene Carter. Since 2006 he has led his own gospel choir, "Le Choeur Enchante." He graduated in 2008 from the University of Montpellier in the field of music therapy. Having a stammering problem himself, he has worked with teenagers suffering from stammering and autism, sharing with them his joy of music and helping them feel more self-confident. From January to May 2010, Mr. Freget traveled throughout India where he learned Indian music and its deep spiritual roots, which elevated his art to new heights. Now 23, Mr. Freget is on a three-month tour in Canada and the United States. His first album, "Songs For Mother Earth," was released this year. The goal of his concerts is to share the peace and joy that he feels though music and meditation. He says that the combination of music and meditation helps reveal a treasure that we all have inside, which just needs to be awakened. One of his favorite quotes is by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: "Love is the key that unlocks the door that leads to ultimate reality." Mr. Freget will give a free public performance at the Harlem Public Library on Monday, November 8, at 4:00 p.m. The library is located at 9 West 124th Street, New York, NY 10027. He will also perform following the Sahaja Meditation program at NYU on Tuesday, November 9. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. |
